Holiday Lights Tours
It’s the most wonderful time of the year…to see beautiful lights and holiday decorations. There are many places to go around the country to see these festive displays. Here are some unique destinations we found:
The Chicago Trolley & Double Decker Co. has a fun Holiday Lights Tour. The tour starts at the famous John Hancock Center’s beautiful Christmas tree. Over the next couple of hours, you’ll ride on one of their decorated trolleys, starting with the Gold Coast for a free cupcake from Sprinkles. After that, you’ll go down State Street and through The Loop to Daley Plaza. Every year, this area transforms into Christkindlmarket, an old German village full of unique shops and delicious holiday treats. After that, you’ll head over the river to Lincoln Park for ZooLights, a party full of decorations, lights, music, crafts and more for the entire family. Then you can sit back and relax on your trip back to the John Hancock Center, taking in all the sights and sounds of a decorated Chicago cityscape.
You may not think “winter holiday” when you think of Sarasota, but you don’t have to hang out with Jack Frost to enjoy this Holiday Tour of Lights. With a variety of different-sized trolleys, SRQ Trolley will have one to fit your group. Bring your own favorite beverage and relax as these fun trolleys take you through Sarasota, Florida to some of the best lighting displays in the area. Festive holiday music will play as you see a life-sized gingerbread house, a version of the Griswald’s famous Christmas Vacation home and more delightful sights. The average temperature in Sarasota in December is 74 degrees, so you’ll have to dream of a white Christmas.
Houston Historical Tours has interesting tours all year round, but during the holidays, they get a little festive! They offer 9 tours, ranging in length from 3 hours to 7 hours. On the tours, you will be treated to holiday music and movies, guided tours about the communities and traditions of the holidays and more. You can bring your own drinks, but there are refreshment breaks along the way (usually at Starbucks). Some of the sights you’ll see on the tours include The Waterwall, Woodland Heights, Candlelight Plaza, Green Tee. There are also walking tours that include Galveston’s Moody Gardens and Dickinson’s Festival of Lights, which includes over a million lights. The seven-hour tour takes you through Santa’s Wonderland and Santa’s Town. You’ll have the chance to watch outdoor movies, cook s’mores and have your photo taken with Santa Claus.
For a little change of pace, how about a few nights at Biltmore House in Asheville, NC? Enjoy an evening bathed in candlelight and warm fireplaces, surrounded by thousands of glittering Christmas ornaments. You’ll be serenaded by choirs and soloists, sharing their Christmas spirit with you musically as you stroll through the beautiful hotel. You’ll be able to go shopping, attend a wine tasting and view a Vanderbilt wedding fashion exhibit. Get in the holiday mood with a holiday visit to this exquisite locale.
