There’s no need to travel far to have a fun weekend. Let Excursions Trailways take you to some interesting and entertaining locations right here in the Buckeye State!
Ohio is home to over 70 big movies that were shot here, including Tommy Boy, Rain Man, and Harper Valley, PTA. You can visit many locations and take tours of the sites. A couple of our favorites include the A Christmas Story house and The Shawshank Redemption Trail tour.
Located in Cleveland, OH, A Christmas Story House has been painstakingly restored and is open year round. Across the street is the official museum featuring props, costumes, and other mementos from the 1983 classic movie. Put this on your list for Santa in place of the Red Ryder BB gun!
Covering 14 filming sites, The Shawshank Trail will let you feel like you’re part of the movie (without the jail time!). The tour was created in 2008 after many requests came into the Mansfield convention and visitors bureau. There are many things to do along the trail and they recommend you schedule a couple days to enjoy the tour.
Air & Space
Ohio is known for its place in aviation and astronomical history. A couple of interesting places to check out include the National Museum of the US Air Force and the Neil Armstrong First Flight Memorial.
The National Museum of the US Air Force is located on the grounds of the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton, OH. This museum is the oldest and largest military aviation museum in the world and is full of engaging exhibits, historical collections, and educational programs. From the early days of the Wright Brothers to tomorrow’s cutting edge stealth fighters, this museum covers every aspect of military aviation.
The Neil Armstrong First Flight Memorial is highlighted by a half-scale replica of the Apollo 11 Lunar Module. This site marks the location where a young Neil Armstrong took his first airplane flight. This educational resource and inspirational memorial lets us remember that we all need to follow our dreams.
Sometimes you just want a place that is unique and fun. A couple of places that are out of the ordinary include Kewpee Burger and Ohio Caverns.
